West Nile fever
A viral disease transmitted to humans mainly through the bite of an infected Culex mosquito.
Symptoms
Most infections are without symptoms; some cause fever, headache, body aches, rash and swollen glands, and a small number progress to severe neurological illness.
Incubation period
2 to 14 days.
Prevention
No vaccination; observe personal protection against mosquito bites. Use repellents, sleep under nets, and wear long sleeves and trousers.
