Marburg virus disease
A suspected case is a sudden onset of fever that does not respond to treatment, with diarrhoea or bleeding from the gums, urine or eyes.
Symptoms
Sudden onset with high fever, severe abdominal pain, headache, vomiting and severe diarrhoea on the third day; may persist for weeks causing severe pallor and sunken eyes from dehydration, a rash, and in severe fatal cases haemorrhagic signs.
Incubation period
2 to 21 days.
Prevention
No vaccination; avoid contact with the blood and fluids of infected people and animals, and observe personal hygiene.
